Messages from Mentors (2024-2025)

"This year I am lucky to be assigned a one on one session with Keith. His language skill and initiation really impressed me. Our mentorship go beyond a regular coffee sessions but also joining his wedding party at Hai Kou, sharing with his insurance buddies, and happy hour together with his wife. Wonderful HKFI mentorship program which make us go beyond, insurance should belike this too."

Elaine S H CHAN

"In my second term as a mentor the 2024/2025 Elite Talent Development programme, I have continuously received opportunities to meet with mentees from the Life and Non-life sides of the insurance industry. In my interactions with this group of talents, I have heard ideas and issues raised among them largely related to topics in the improvement of their work efficiency to enable their moving the business forward. The outcome of the discussions among the mentors and mentees has demonstrated good supports to the mentees’ positive attitudes towards the future of the insurance industry. The non-competitive platform provided by this programme has laid down a free circumstance in which mentees are able to openly share views and solutions to the business issues in the current business environment. More to that, the personal network built during the year could ultimately prove helpful to each mentee on their future career development path."

Philip CHAN

"Mentoring has been rewarding as your adaptability in navigating challenges and fresh perspectives sometimes challenge my experience and assumptions. I am pleased to witness your growth through lifelong learning which reminds me that mentorship is a two-way exchange. Sharing our views and experience have indeed enriched both our journey!"

Alex W Y CHU

"I truly cherished the moments I spent with my mentees. They listened attentively to the stories of my professional journey, valuing the lessons I had learned over the years. In turn, I found myself inspired by their fresh perspectives, as they introduced me to the latest advancements in Insurtech and artificial intelligence - a field evolving rapidly and transforming our industry. These exchanges highlighted how the mentor-mentee relationship can be a profound blend of tradition and innovation, where knowledge flows in both directions, fostering growth, curiosity, and collaboration."

Teresa O W MA

"This platform serves as a valuable hub, connecting participants with experienced professionals in an indifferent area to exchange knowledge, respond to shifting market trends, and support the mentees’ future growth and development."

Jimmy W F POON

"I highly appreciate HKFI’s commitment to fostering the growth of young executives and insurance practitioners through the Elite Talent Development Programme. This invaluable platform provides mentees with an opportunity to gain experience from the insurance veterans. The programme not only enhances their skills and knowledge but also builds a supportive community within the industry."

Allan Yu

"To all Mentees: Ask yourself WHY you join this programme (compelled?)For what value you want to draw out from your mentor & the programme. Be proactive since this is your responsibility and to your own benefit. Do a summary of learning after each sharing session with your mentor (otherwise is a waste of time spent), they can be reviewed in the future."

Messages from Mentors (2022-2023)

"Very nice to connect with all the upcoming youngsters, love their enthusiasm, proactiveness, and energy. Communication is never in one way, both sides are being inspired and strengthening. Thanks to HKFI for organising this platform. A quote from movie《梅艷芳》:「前輩係要提攜後輩」"

Elaine S H CHAN

"I would to like to express my appreciation to HKFI for inviting me to participate in the Elite Talent Development Programme in which I came to know you. Over the last few months, we have met in several gatherings (I am sure we should have met more often if not for the pandemic situation last year). In every gathering, we have chatted about things both at work or outside. It allowed me to keep in touch with the Industry I worked and love in the past 30 years. More importantly, we have built friendship which I trust will last for the many years to come! Now that the programme is coming to an end, but I strongly believe that our friendship will continue and we will have more gatherings in the coming future."

LEE Pak-kee

"Apart from the mentorship development, HKFI has created an excellent platform for mentees to network with peers and industry leaders and hence mentees can obtain a wider scope of vision about the insurance industry. Getting along with my mentees Johnny and Darren, we built rapport and trust with each other and I am confident this element will not diminish even the mentorship programme ends after May this year."

Teresa MA

"Technical knowledge can be acquired by sitting next to a computer. What marks out the real leaders in our industry is the ability to communicate – to inspire, to explain, to influence and to reassure. The moment we stop learning and being ready for change, we lose the right to be a leader in our industry."

Philip SMITH

"The Hong Kong insurance industry is facing an unprecedented challenge of talent shortage in the recent years due to aging population and immigration of young executives. This challenge, however, may turn into opportunities for young insurance practitioners who may get themselves equipped with new skill and vision to embrace the rapid changes of the market environment. The mentor programme is an excellent platform for the mentees to share the experience of insurance veterans, which can be viewed as a guide in their future path of insurance career."

Harry K T WONG

Messages from Mentors (2021-2022)

"Mentees, - Be open-minded to embracing changes whenever opportunity comes; - Actively participate in the industry activities and task force to broaden the view and exposure; - Be inclusive and positive towards any adverse situation; - In anticipation of the transformation of the world after COVID-19, we need to proactively address the changes to make a difference."

Agnes H K CHOI

"I am very pleased to connect with two rising talents through the HKFI ETDP. I hope they find me a good sounding board for their thoughts and I actually learn from them on the latest developments and emerging challenges in our industry. Only wish that we could have more physical contact in times of pandemic."

Alex W Y CHU

"A mentor's job is to share her experience, skill and knowledge to the mentees. However, in the course of sharing, I also learned from Katie and Stephen. They brought me to see things in a new dimension . Our past experience coupled with their new innovative ideas will definitely drive our industry into a new era."

Teresa O W MA

"It is a good platform to share technical know-how for local market and some historical background to them. Looking forward to seeing they will bring new initiative with old value vision to our industry."
